The Montezuma Revenge Event Ride... Ride with GPS map
.
Starting in Bisbee, this ride takes us to Montezuma Canyon Road in the Coronado National Memorial. The park was established to commemorate and interpret the European Coronado Expedition of 1540 that significantly impacted the indigenous people in the region.
44, 57 and 66-mile options are available.
Socialize afterwards at the Bisbee's Table Restaurant.
Ride leader: Mark Mench, 650.804.8469
Notes:
There are no designed A or C ride leaders. A or C riders are welcome to join and ride independently as well as participate in the social event afterwards. Alternate route suggestions can be made.
If the ride leader is denoted as TBD at the time of the ride, there is no ride leader available. In this case, riders should discuss the route and safety considerations before starting the ride and read these good safety practices in advance.
Parking: The plan is to park once to allow walking into Bisbee for an after-ride meal. We will attempt to park at the south end of town at Mile High Parking at 1 Naco Rd, Bisbee, AZ 85603. There is also a free lot nearby. If no parking is available, find a different location and meet at Mile High Parking to start the ride.
Services: There are mini marts before and after the turn on Coranado Memorial Road. There are rest rooms at the Coronado Visitor's center.
Weather: Winds are expected to be 5-7 mph out of the North-East.
Roads: The road surfaces will be rough, and we will only have a shoulder on 92. Stay single file at all times. The climb up Montezuma Canyon is 4.6 miles with an average of 3.7%.
Options: When we get to Coranado Memorial Road, you have 4 options. (1) return to Bisbee (44 mi), (2) continue on 92 and do a loop toward Sierra Vista (56 mi), (3) do the Montezuma Climb and return east on 92 (54 mi) or (4) do the Montezuma climb and do the loop back toward Sierra Vista (66 mi)
